Foundation Madat Nepal
Madat Nepal is established in 1992 as a foundation that finances small scale projects in education and health care in Nepal. It is a NGO that is exempted from taxes. In the area of education we still build new schools (also because of the 2015 earthquake), we finance the salaries of teachers, small libraries and training programs for teachers.
In the area of health care we have financed many mobile health camps for eye-, dental- and ENT-care, especially for cataract operations. For the students of the schools that have been build by us, and for the people in the nearby area we have created also health camps. After examination everybody that needs special glasses, gets them free. The same goes for dental problems, were we pay the bill. Already a few years we pay also ear operations, mostly to repair the eardrum.
We also realized a few locale drinking water projects. Lack of safe drinking water in the mountain area is often a big problem. But for us it is also many times difficult to solve, because many projects are not completely local and there is a lot of money and knowledge necessary. Politics can also complicate solutions.
We also financed income generating projects. In the case of individual help, like educations, we always required a form of return service for the community. Lately we also helped with financing the building of a centre for multiple handicapped children and transportation for them to and from the centre.
The board members of Madat Nepal and many Dutch volunteers help without any benefit. Madat Nepal had twenty-five year no overhead. All overhead was paid by de Madat Nepal Handel foundation, a certified fair trade importer of Nepali handicraft. Unfortunately Madat Nepal Handel went bankrupt in the beginning of 2017. From now on Madat Nepal will be an ANBI foundation with a minimal overhead.
